MIDDLE School Program Overview

The Breaking Down the Walls program is a unique opportunity for students and staff to connect, share their stories, and realize…

"it's hard to hate someone whose story you know."

This program creates a safe environment for students to build empathy and understanding through our "play, trust, learn" model. By first helping students laugh together, they start to trust one another, and eventually want to learn from those outside their normal friend group. The assembly, training, and workshops leave everyone with the realization we are truly BETTER TOGETHER!

OUTCOMES

Breaking Down the Walls strengthens social and emotional learning (SEL), specifically building social awareness and relationship skills that are vital to student growth and success.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Assembly Kick-off Video

The week kicks off with a short video to be shared with all students and staff to set the tone:

We are Better Together!

Workshops

The workshops include a blend of large group, small group, and 1:1 experiences and provide an opportunity for students to create empathy, build social awareness, and create meaningful relationships with peers outside their traditional friend group.

The standard package includes two workshop days with a morning and afternoon workshop. Each workshop is 2.5 hours in length and includes up to 80 students and 10 adults.

We will partner with each school to adhere to COVID-19 social distancing protocols to set the program up for success while keeping students and staff safe.

Thank you to Seth Hemken, Director of Marketing and Technology from the Redding (CA) School District for this video!
